About your listing

What is Pet Sit & Go home exchange?

It's like other home exchange sites but with one unique difference: our members are pet lovers and owners, and they travel. While you enjoy a vacation in someone else's home, your pet is enjoying a stay-cation, and vice versa. In other words, you can enjoy your vacation in someone else's home or apartment while they are enjoying yours—and all your pets are content in their respective homes. You can take an unlimited number of vacations with other Pet Sit & Go members during your membership. And there are more options.

How can I trust a stranger in my home, to look after my pet?

Home exchanges are based on mutual trust. Many home exchange sites have been in existence for decades—even before the web—and the operators have never experienced problems. Well, a few problems have been reported but only regarding level of cleanliness. If your home isn't spotless, be honest. As long as both parties are honest about their home and pet, there won't be a problem.

Can anyone take part in a home exchange?

Anyone with a property can take part, for as many exchanges as you like. If your home is rented, check first for permission from your landlord. You can view all listings but need to register to take part in an exchange and/or rental.

What are the benefits

Let us count the ways:

  1. You can travel with the knowledge that your pet is safe at home
  2. The security of having your home occupied, with your guard pet
  3. enjoy the space and convenience of staying in a home
  4. No hotel bills
  5. Meet the locals, "go native" and experience a different culture first-hand
  6. Cut down on restaurant bills
  7. If agreed, you can exchange vehicles and save on vehicle rentals.

My home is small and not that luxurious and not downtown. Why would someone want to swap with me?

Most members are looking for the right location and time for their vacation. If traveling with family members, it is more important to have enough space than having luxury. If you don't live in a tourist area, you might want to consider a car swap.

How do I join?

There are basically 3 steps/forms to join PetSit & Go. Because you trust your pet with a new guardian and friend, we require a bit more information than other home exchange sites. 1. Create your Member Profile
  2. Create your Home Listing
  3. If you have a pet, read our Petifesto and
  4. Create Your Pet(s) profile

Each form allows you to upload photos. Once your member profile is completed, you have an option to create your home listing (please include an appealing and honest description of your home). The more photos you upload (up to 15), the better.

No, but if you aren't interested we recommend you send a short note of regret a common courtesy. That way members aren't waiting to hear from you and can move on to other exchange possibilities.

Please remember: Photos must be under 1mb and only in .jpg .gif and .png image formats. The height and width will be automatically adjusted – but you don't want them to be huge.

How to Resize Pictures

  1. Open the picture in the program that came with your digital camera (If you don't have one, see below). To do this click on "file" and then "open" in the top menu, then choose your picture.
  2. Click on "image" then on "resize/resample" to open the resizing box.
  3. Make sure the "preserve aspect ratio" button is clicked. This protects your pictures from becoming distorted while you are resizing them.
  4. Choose the size you want your picture to be and click "OK".
  5. If you don't like the size that your picture has become click on "edit" then "undo". Start over.
  6. If your picture is a little blurry you can click "image" then "sharpen".

Your digital camera should include a CD so you can download photos. If not, you need to download graphics editing software. (Shareware and Freeware - Graphics Editing Programs Try before you buy freeware and shareware for editing graphics. Graphics editing programs you can try out to see which you like.)

Or:
JPEG Optimizer

Shrink your file size in seconds to save space on your server. It can compress 100's of files all at the same time.

Now it's time to upload it to your website. You can do this using an FTP program or with the file upload program that comes with your hosting service. Then you can add it to your Web site, and upload photos to petsitandgo.com.

If you don't have a digital camera then you may will need to scan photos. All you need to scan photos is a scanner or a photo scanner and a graphics or photo editing program.

The first thing you need to do is scan your photo using your scanner. The photo will then be seen on your computer. Save the photo to a special folder so you can find it later and give it a unique name so you will know which photo it is.

Your main image should be a picture of your house that you want featured in "browse listings". You can upload up to 10 photos, including your pet.
